A Little Taste Of The Past

Poll Of The Day is back — served with a side of family flavor.

TODAY’S POLL

LAST POLL RESULTS

37.9% of you voted Not my thing in yesterday’s poll: What’s your general take on monograms?

“I live in the South where EVERYTHING is monogrammed. Why does a grown woman need her initials on her purse? I don’t understand the appeal.”

“NO REASON FOR THEM.”

“They can help if you are in the market for that offering, but making them well known is not cheap — it adds to the cost of goods sold, and the consumer pays.”

“I do not like how a traditionally embroidered monogram seems ‘out of order,’ with the last initial larger but in the MIDDLE! Equal-height, three-letter monograms would be better. But basically, just an extra fee to extract from the consumer!”

“I think they are kind of silly, and they remind me of how moms used to label clothes when I was a kid.”

“They’re a bit preppy for my taste, but they were cute back in the ’90s! I feel like I haven’t seen them in ages.”

“I’m neutral on this subject and really couldn’t care less about it. Monograms seemed to be a thing from the ’70s and earlier. My parents had a lot of monogrammed items, presumably from when they were married in the ’50s. I’d call it antique now, I guess.”

“Totally neutral on the subject.”

“Take them or leave them.”

“Since mine doesn’t have ‘her royal highness,’ I guess I’ll pass.”

“If it’s a necklace, I like it, but on a shirt, I’m not that big of a fan.”

“I had monogrammed things growing up; now it seems I only pay for a monogram if it’s a gift for a life event (wedding, baby, etc.). Personally, I wouldn’t pay just to have my initials on my towels — I know who I am! Haha.”

“I’ve been given monogrammed gifts, and I like them; however, monograms aren’t something I think about regularly. I’m about as neutral as vanilla ice cream on this one.”

“I like monograms. Since my suits, blazers, slacks, and dresses tend to be in quieter, monochromatic tones of navy blue, black, and burgundy — with some white and beige items for summer — monograms add a little decoration. But I use them sparingly! I’ve got two or three shirts with monograms, as well as a monogrammed briefcase. That’s it!”

“Distinguished and keeps kids’ items from being misplaced.”

“I like an individual’s personal monogram, not corporate monograms.”

“As long as it is mine…”

“I can’t explain it, but having your own monogram is cool. There’s a certain elegance to monograms that I’ve always admired.”
