A Tiny Sign Of The Times
Welcome back to Poll Of The Day — today’s question asks you to scan your surroundings.

TODAY’S POLL
How often do you notice litter in public spaces? |
LAST POLL RESULTS
37.2% of you voted Very comfortable — I can usually do it in one try. in yesterday’s poll: How comfortable are you with parallel parking on a busy street?
“They call me ‘One Time’ because it only takes me one time.”
“My ex and kids called me ‘The Parking King.’”
“I’ve always been told how good I am at parallel parking.”
“Got lots of practice living in the city.”
“I grew up in the big city, and it was normal (back then) to confront parallel parking daily. Been doing it forever. The only problem I have is that my trucks keep getting bigger.”
“I’m a New Yorker — I come from the Land of Parallel Parking! So yes, I can parallel park on a city street in a space not much bigger than a shoebox.”
“Dated a guy in downtown Philly in my 20s and got very good at parking on those streets!!!”
“Grew up in a town of 500 people, but somehow, I’m good at it.”
“I’m good at it but lazy; if I’m in a tough car, I’ll just go forward over the curb and slide down into the spot.”
“I’m a pro, and there’s an easy trick. Get as close as you can to the car in front of the spot and align yourself so their outside headlight is in the triangle window in your backseat. Turn the wheel hard right and reverse until the inner headlight of the car behind the spot is in the first third of your rearview mirror. Then back in straight, and you’re done. Works every time!”
“I am better at parallel parking to the right than to the left — although I can parallel park on either side. I can also back up and drive down dirt roads to make it easier to drive out. Whodathunk!!”
“It’s really easy for Tesla!”
“EASY PEASY.”
“It’s easier in parts of Europe because cars have rubber on the bumpers, so you can squeeze in and do no damage to the cars.”
“I clicked somewhat comfortable — I haven’t had to parallel park in years. I was pretty good at it on the first try when I did have to do it, so I feel confident enough that I can do it again, even if it takes an extra forward and back.”
“Back up cameras help.”
“I didn’t learn to parallel park until I was 35. I can do it, but I don’t live in an area where the skill is needed that often, so I don’t get much practice. I’m more than happy to pay for parking, though, so it hasn’t been an issue.”
“Very few places in my area have parallel parking. It isn’t really a problem.”
“When I lived in LA and the Bay Area, I became very comfortable parallel parking. But now that we live in a small town on the coast, there’s always so much available non-parallel parking that I rarely have to do it, so my skills are rusty.”
“We lived in the city for years. I can honestly say practice makes perfect. I was terrified at first, but after a while I could do it blindfolded. Now I’m way out of practice and will probably opt for valet parking.”
“Do not drive in cities, only spacious burbs — no need to parallel park. If ever in the city, use paid parking.”
“Definitely not my favorite and even less so under pressure.”
“I only have vision in one eye. This makes depth perception nonexistent. We do not have a vehicle with automatic parking capabilities.”
“I can’t drive anymore due to a seizure disorder, but when I did still drive, I honestly couldn’t parallel park very well if my life depended on it!”
“If it requires parallel parking or driving at night, I’m out! Lol.”
“Not a fan. Won’t even attempt.”
“I don’t drive. And I don’t parallel park!”
