Welcome back to Poll Of The Day — this one stays on track.

TODAY’S POLL
How often do you travel by train? |
LAST POLL RESULTS
68.3% of you voted 🖊️ Pen in yesterday’s poll: What’s your favorite writing utensil?
“A pen was good enough for Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson, so why use something else?”
“Just used to it since I was born in 1965. I write in cursive, too — it makes me feel my thoughts and remember what I wrote better.”
“Cursive.”
“I’m definitely old-school.”
“You write with a pen and type with a keyboard…”
“Different kinds of pens. I am very picky about pens for some reason.”
“I’m very picky about my pens, too!”
“A pen with a thick tip! My favorite is the Bic Velocity with a 1.6 mm tip.”
“Has to be a medium ballpoint pen — no fine point for me!”
“When you say ‘writing utensil,’ I’m thinking handwriting! I like a good medium ballpoint pen — occasionally fine point, but not too fine. Blue ink. No smearing, please!”
“My pen must be fine-point blue, plus other multi-colors.”
“It’s a pet peeve of mine, but the pen I use better be black ink. If it’s blue, I’ll go out of my way to find one with black ink.”
“Pilot G2 gel fine point — love the way the ink flows.”
“I love a good ink pen!”
“I use all the mentioned writing tools, but my Pilot extra-thin black ink pen is my favorite.”
“I LIKE THE ONES MY DOCTORS PUT OUT FOR FREE.”
“I LOVE all facets of pens!”
“Also my finger on my iPhone.”
“Marker. They come in so many fun colors to get creative with.”
“I love thin-line Sharpies — they’re bold.”
“It depends a bit on the purpose of the writing, though.”
“I’ve written in pencil since high school. I like to be able to erase.”
“I’m old-school. I write all my notes with a pad and pencil. Whoever invented the eraser at the other end of the pencil was a genius — it’s nice to be able to make a quick fix for an error.”
“I’m not an expert crossword puzzler... yet!”
“I use a Remarkable Pro for everything, so stylus it is!”
“I’m a professional writer, so I’m most comfortable (and most efficient) writing on a keyboard. Back in my youth, when manual and electric typewriters reigned and I often wrote short stories for fun, I sometimes used a pen to write in longhand — it slowed down my writing and allowed me to focus on style and technique. I could almost ‘taste’ each word and sentence.”
“Definitely a keyboard. I prefer to type everything because my handwriting is so bad.”
“I said keyboard. I’ve always hated my writing, but when I do write, it’s in pen. I’m just better on a keyboard — my preference, even if it’s in the minority! At least I was taught cursive at a young age — not sure why that’s going away?”
“Keyboard for lengthy writing projects or my most common correspondence like texts or emails… but for signing and making lists, a nice pen is great.”
“I love pens for journaling — I use the Sharpie S-Gel for daily use and the Retro 51 Tornado fountain pen when I’m feeling fancy. I also run a memoir company called Front Row Memoirs, where I use an ergonomic keyboard for long-form content.”
“The keyboard is just so convenient — I can easily delete anything I wrote before. The pen feels really permanent, although I do love the feeling of writing with pens.”
“I try to type as much as possible to preserve the digital history. But I still write daily to-do notes and shopping lists, using many years of accumulated hotel and conference notepads!”
“I love to type now due to hand cramps.”
