LAST POLL RESULTS

54.7% of you voted No, I wasn’t interested in yesterday’s poll: Did you tune into this year’s Oscars ceremony?

“I used to be interested in the Oscars when my mom was around. Since her passing not long ago, I stopped watching. Makes me sad.”

“I used to watch all the time but stopped when it became political. I liked it for the beautiful fashion and the fun comments. It became too heavy — and definitely not fun. Just exhausting.”

“I used to love the award shows but have no interest now. Too many political statements. I hear enough elsewhere every day from both sides. I just want to enjoy the celebration of films, and that doesn’t happen anymore.”

“The Oscars suck now — it’s nothing but a political mess and movies people will forget within a year.”

“I’m tired of politics!”

“Stick to acting, not politics.”

“Very political and disrespectful to proper behavior.”

“Hollywood actors are the only group I know of that give themselves multiple awards each year for simply pretending to be someone else. Just because they pretend to be doctors, economists, or diplomats certainly doesn’t mean they are — but they fail to understand that and try to influence those realms.”

“I find celebrities painfully boring to watch.”

“WHO CARES?”

“For decades, we tried to make sure we saw all the movies nominated before the Oscars. It was great fun discussing our opinions with family and coworkers. Now 90% of the movies are very average — so nobody cares anymore.”

“Movies are so passé!”

“I didn’t even know it was happening.”

“Is that thing still on!?”

“In the past few years, the nominated films have held no interest for me.”

“The Oscars are not of interest to me anymore. Stopped watching many years ago.”

“A bunch of privileged millionaires giving themselves awards and pretending to support the working class — when most of them have no clue what it’s like to be poor today.”

“Too many award shows… rich people giving themselves pats on the back just doesn’t interest me — especially when they diss America.”

“I have no interest in entertainment award shows. How well-liked they are should be reflected in the money they make and earn. I’m not sure why they feel the need to pat themselves on the back — it makes me wonder at whose expense they’re doing it.”

“Not interested in celebrities slapping each other on the back and saying ‘Good job!’ for just doing their job.”

“I get less interested each year in watching Hollywood pat themselves on the back.”

“I didn’t feel like devoting that much time. Plus, my son and his girlfriend came over for dinner.”

“We don’t have cable in this house.”

“I didn’t bother to check whether it was streaming, but I haven’t had direct broadcast TV for years now — just TOO MANY SUBSCRIPTIONS! I hadn’t seen most of the nominees anyway.”

“I wanted to watch it but wasn’t going to pay for a streaming service.”

“I barely watch three hours of television a week. Our small-town movie theater doesn’t show movies every week, but when it does, it’s children’s movies or very Christian in style. I have no interest in the Oscars, Emmys, or anything like that.”

“Live in a time zone where the start time is too early.”

“Not interested in anything Hollywood for the most part. However, I’ve been highly impressed with Jesse Buckley. I predicted she was going to win from the announcement of this year’s nominees, so I did keep tabs on the Oscars via social media.”

“Really only to see the fashions. Didn’t watch any of the movies.”

“Only interested in the fashion — and there are plenty of posts the day after, so no need to tune in.”

“I would watch it, but my husband hates award shows of any kind. The results are covered so well everywhere else that I don’t miss watching it.”

“I was on Facebook and saw a couple of scenes from it.”

“I watched for a few minutes, but there are SO many commercials (looking at you, Burger King) that I get bored and change the channel. I can just catch the recap the following day. It would be more fun if regular people got to vote for the winners.”

“I just wanted to check and make sure Timothée Chalamet didn’t win.”

“Had to see MBJ and Ryan Coogler win. <3”

“I watched it on a delay. I actually didn’t mind this year’s show, but Sinners should have won more awards.”

“I always watch the Oscars. I love seeing the celebrities in their finery, watching clips from films I’ve seen (or haven’t seen), and hearing songs from various movies. I love learning about different aspects of filmmaking and the personalities, past and present, who’ve built the industry. I also love seeing how actors, directors, producers, cinematographers, makeup artists, costume designers, and other professionals gather together to celebrate their industry and toast the colleagues who’ve reached the very pinnacle in their fields.”
