“I chose ‘customize’ because I have no idea how to turn read receipts on or off in AOL Mail or Gmail, so they obviously aren’t used in my email. In some apps, like Messenger, you can see if and when someone reads your message. When I was working, I’d customize the settings in Outlook and turn them on for certain emails if they were very important. But now it doesn’t matter to me. If someone reads and responds, they’ll do it on their own time — and I’ll do the same. 😁”

“I like knowing whether my texts have been read, especially by friends and doctors. I don’t use read receipts for emails.”

“If you want to know whether someone read your email, it seems logical to have read receipts on. The flip side is that sometimes you don’t want someone to know you’ve read their email — especially if you’re not sure how to respond.”

“I didn’t realize there was a name for such a thing. I like having them on because they let me know the delivery was made and all is good in cyberspace. Once the delivery has been confirmed, the next question is whether the message was understood or simply ignored. Best not to guess.”
