LAST POLL RESULTS

85.2% of you voted I passed on my first try in yesterday’s poll: What was the outcome of your last driving test?

“But just barely…”

“I passed. Barely. But I don’t tell anyone about the latter. Shhhh.”

“When I was 16!”

“My first try was in 1962. Yes, I passed.”

“It was 1976, and I passed without problems.”

“Both the car test and CDL.”

"Only had to take one driving test when I was 16 and passed that. Had to take a written test to renew once. No problem with that."

“If you read the cheat sheet they give you, it’s a pretty easy test. When I originally went for my driver’s license, I was nervous as heck. Thankfully, I passed. I was so happy I could have jumped over the moon.”

“EASY PEASY, EXCEPT PARALLEL PARKING WITH MY MOTHER’S BIG BOAT STATION WAGON. NOW, IT’S SECOND NATURE.”

“My mother said that she’d sign my learner’s permit but that I’d have to do the rest. Luckily, a couple of friends let me drive. I’m not sure about the legalities regarding their age, but when my boyfriend took me, I passed the first time using his Dodge Dart Swinger. Can you tell I’m old?”

“Yikes, don’t get me started! I passed my first and only test in 1983 at age 16 ON my birthday. Frankly, I’m not sure what they have or have NOT been teaching kids and folks in the past 20-30 years, but it hasn’t been good. I’ll just leave it there, or else y’all would have a novel from me on this subject, lol!”

“I haven’t had to test since the original one, though — decades ago!”

“No tests since I was 18 years old (decades ago). I was lucky to pass then, driving a huge car that I had not previously driven (belonged to a friend).”

“But that was a loooooong time ago...”

“JEESH — THAT WAS MANY, MANY MOONS AGO!!”

“Funny you should ask — I recently retested after not driving for 20 years due to a medical issue. I was more nervous this time than the 1st time.”

“Had cataract surgery so I could pass the eye test.”

“Ended up having to take the driving test twice… I messed up the reverse parking by smoothly pulling into the spot next to the designated one marked with the cones. Lol.”

“My last driving test was in July 1971. I passed after two fails… and it wasn’t just my parallel parking. My dad pulled into the DMV on our way home from work. I had a summer job, and I was panicked, but he insisted that I take the test and that I would pass. Am I glad he did that… I had a driver’s license that afternoon, and two days later, we were on summer vacation, and I could drive on my own. Best dad ever!”

“I haven’t taken a test since my early 20s (4 decades ago), and I passed on my 3rd try. I never was good at tests. I was surprised and thrilled that I even passed.”

“It’s been a long time since my last driving test — nearly 40 years, lol. But it did take more than one try because my car broke down on the course.”

“The written test took me a couple of tries — there are different Alaska state driving rules that made it more difficult. The driving test itself is easy.”

“I have never failed a driving test in over 50 years of driving.”
