If The Shoe Fits...
Welcome back to Poll Of The Day — today’s question is all about finding the perfect fit.

TODAY’S POLL
Have you ever had your feet professionally measured at a store before buying shoes? |
LAST POLL RESULTS
71.8% of you voted No, how they use their PTO is their business in yesterday’s poll: Should employees have to explain how they use their PTO?
“Lol, NO! Isn’t that why it’s called PTO?”
“No, they should not. That is why it’s called PERSONAL time off.”
“It’s PERSONAL!”
“What I do with my time off the clock is my business.”
“My time off is my business.”
“My time; my business. Period.”
“It is not personal time off if they have to explain why it is personal. Personal time should be private.”
“Especially if they are using their PTO to go to a job interview!”
“An employee may want to share with their work comrades if they so desire. It could be a personal situation, so people need to be sensitive to their colleagues’ privacy. The key is to get your PTO 💵!”
“That’s what PTO is for. There’s no need to explain if it’s approved in advance. On the other hand, if one requests it the day before, then an explanation would probably be in order.”
“If the company is one that respects employees, then employees will consider company workloads and needs before taking PTO. But quite frankly, if the company offers PTO, then it should provide it as requested — no questions asked. Excessive PTO requests might warrant the company reaching out to the employee to check in, which should include a discussion of the impact those absences have on fellow workers and overall company performance. Employees, after all, do need to recognize that they work for the company.”
“PTO, like any other vacation, needs to be worked into the employer’s schedule as much as the employee’s.”
“The managers who want to know why you’re using your PTO are exactly the ones who will use those reasons against you.”
“I once went on a cruise and took an extra day at the end to get my life back in order. My boss found out and texted me that I should be at work. I almost quit that day. I eventually cooled down and told him that how I use my approved PTO is none of his business.”
“DAMN RIGHT — IT IS NOT THE EMPLOYER’S BUSINESS.”
“Why should anyone divulge anything? I don’t care if you want to stare out of your kitchen window all day long. It’s none of my business.”
“That is outrageous unless there are state-secret-level issues.”
“Again, I’m SO happy I retired. Asking for time off was the worst, especially when you ran out of days but not the year. My time is all mine now!”
“Those of you who responded with a ‘Yes’ are monsters.”
