It’s Giving... Strings Attached
Welcome back to Poll Of The Day — today’s question puts a bow on the art of giving and letting go.

TODAY’S POLL
When you give someone a gift, do you think it’s appropriate to ask them later if they use or like it? |
LAST POLL RESULTS
31.1% of you voted I prefer some small talk in Friday’s poll: When you’re getting your hair, nails, or another personal grooming service done, how much do you prefer to chat with your stylist?
“I want my stylist to like me — something to do with getting a nice haircut. I want her to care enough to make me look nice.”
“I like to talk. That way, it puts us both at ease.”
“Just small conversations with my barber when getting my haircut. We usually talk about sports, wives, children, and grandchildren.”
“We often talk — it is our time to catch up on family, friends, and life.”
“We share a lot of stories. It’s fun and good to hear what’s going on in each other’s lives.”
“MEN TALK LITTLE, WOMEN TALK CONSTANTLY.”
“My hair stylist and I chat a little and laugh the rest of the time.”
“What is it about hairdressers needing to talk? Most barbers rarely let you get a word in while they’re cutting your hair. Some are hilarious. Those are the ones I don’t mind getting my haircut with.”
“My oldest granddaughter is about to finish cosmetology school! When she’s doing my hair, we have lots of fun BS’n & LOAO!!!”
“I am a natural introvert, but if a person gets me to talk, I like small talk. Complete silence during a service — unless it’s called for — is boring.”
“Silence seems too awkward, especially if I know them well.”
“It would be awkward to sit there for 15 minutes in silence while the stylist is cutting my hair. I always seem to get a nice, young stylist who is friendly and likes to chat, at least some. It definitely breaks the monotony. I usually tip a little better if the stylist makes it a fun appointment.”
“When you’re a repeat customer, it’s a little easier to chat…”
“It’s good to talk to someone you don’t see often but have a connection with.”
“Some days, I don’t feel like talking or chatting. I want quick and efficient service. Usually, the stylist will understand. When I first get to the salon, I make my wishes known.”
“I greatly appreciate their skills, but I’d prefer to just answer the questions they need to know for the appointment and then relax without having to be ‘on’ with somebody I don’t know well.”
“It’s me time, and I honestly only want to be alone with my thoughts.”
“Eyes closed, quiet, and relaxed.”
“Silence is golden.”
“I gave up going to the barber after moving from my hometown. I just do it myself now.”
