Personal Branding Before It Was A Thing
Welcome back to Poll Of The Day — today’s question is all about initial reactions.

TODAY’S POLL
What’s your general take on monograms? |
LAST POLL RESULTS
37.8% of you voted Somewhat in yesterday’s poll: How much do personal connections influence the content (e.g., movies, music, memes) you discover?
“I’m in philosophy classes, and I belong to a weekly book club. I definitely get recommendations from both for books, movies, etc. I appreciate suggestions from these groups because I know where their interests are.”
“It has an incredible influence on my choices. I know my friends and their tastes. If they have a cool song, TV show, or whatever it may be, I’m always interested.”
“If they’re interested, I try to get into it, too.”
“I like what I like; however, if someone whose opinion I value suggests something, I will check it out. Most of the time, it is something I will like/enjoy as well.”
“I love watching things that feel completely opposite to my daily life. I like to lose myself in movies. Laughter is always welcome.”
“I feel personal connections have everything to do with what a person discovers. Someone isn’t going to watch or listen to something that doesn’t interest them. Just earlier today, I found out the Bob Marley movie from 2024 is on Netflix. I’ve always loved his music and the aura and vibes he gave about peace and love. So, that’s my next watch this week! ☮️❤️🤘”
“I’m usually the one doing the discovering and informing others.”
“I like to think for myself and gather the information before making up my mind!”
“I LIKE WHAT I LIKE, NOT WHAT OTHERS NECESSARILY LIKE.”
“Not much. I like what I like.”
“I know what I like, so others don’t really influence my preferences…”
“No connection that I can remember.”
“Don’t use memes or watch movies.”
“Do not view content. I have my own life.”
“Loner.”
“I suppose everything could somehow be traced back to a personal connection — a memory of someone may entice me to click on a YouTube title or link to a website. However, on a day-to-day basis, most of what I find, explore, watch, or read is based on what’s going on inside me: a current interest or a need to clarify something I don’t know enough about or understand, not any one person’s recommendation.”
