“I love fireworks. Now, the people who use them are another matter. Happy 250, folks! Be safe.”

“I LOVE them! Both of our dogs, however, have vastly opposing opinions from mine. We have to buy sedatives for our very ‘gun-shy’ girls. This weekend will be tough on them.”

“Sorry, little dogs! Fireworks are a ton of fun! I can’t imagine the Fourth of July or any other major event without them!”

“I love them, as long as I’m far enough away to avoid any ‘mishaps.’ As a teen, I saw one that was supposed to go up either dive directly into the stands or stay on the ground when it was supposed to go up. It was madness — ambulances, stretchers, madness. I also hate when, at fireworks shows, some drunk is lighting off their own with no regard for who might get burned. It always happens.”

“I used to love them. They’re truly nostalgic for me and remind me of when my daddy used to take me to see them. I’ve backed off a little now because I know fireworks aren’t the same for everyone. Dogs have a hard time with them and run away. Veterans and others with PTSD can’t handle them mentally. I live at the beach about half the time, so they’re nonstop many times a year and eventually get old. Tourists are obviously the worst when it comes to fireworks, from being careless to not picking up after themselves. But overall, I really do still like them!”

“I do like them (when they’re put on by professionals), but it hurts my heart to see how much they scare dogs and other animals. I also feel that more and more people are becoming careless and reckless with them, unfortunately.”

“I like watching a professional fireworks show, but I dislike homeowners shooting off their own. They cause too many fires by not paying attention to where they’re shooting them.”

“It depends on the situation. If I’m celebrating outside during a festive time, it’s cool. But if it’s late at night and I’m trying to go to sleep and they keep popping off, I’m like, ‘What in the world is going on?’ That’s not cool.”

“The older I’ve gotten, the less I care about watching fireworks. They were better when I was a kid.”

“I loved them when I was a kid. Later, in my 20s and 30s, I’d head to Grant Park to watch the city’s display. I don’t really care for them anymore. They scare the heck out of my cats. And my pets aren’t the only ones affected.”

“Seeing the display is somewhat enjoyable, but I don’t like the loud noises that people, animals, and birds have to endure. I also have a bad reaction to insect bites, so sitting outside with hundreds of others isn’t to my liking.”

“They freak out my dogs, and they’re a fire hazard in residential areas, so I’m not a big fan of them in my neighborhood. I’m fine with large public displays in appropriate locations, but living in Alaska, it doesn’t get dark enough this time of year to really see them. They’re more popular around New Year’s up here, when it’s dark all the time.”

“I used to enjoy them when I stayed up that late! Now that I’ve learned how bad they are for the environment and how dangerous they can be, I wish they’d use drones or something else.”

“The risks of fireworks are well-documented. Surely, we can find a safer way to celebrate.”

“I’ve always loved fireworks. It’s a new age now. Drones and light shows are impressive, though I’ll always miss the big bang. The new stuff is safer and cheaper. Let’s enjoy the reason for the fireworks and a great show, even without the big bang.”

“I think they’re beautiful, but I do not like how they scare the animals. Drone shows are awesome with no sound.”

“They’re cool-looking, but too many animals and people with PTSD are frightened by them. It wouldn’t be bad if they only did them on the Fourth, but it seems like the week leading up to and the week after the Fourth is a war zone.”

“I loved them until I got a dog who’s terrified of them. Seeing him suffer has made me hate them!”

“We lost our cat this year, but we’ll never forget how much he hated fireworks. Not to mention how terrible they are for the environment.”

“They pollute and terrify animals and children. What’s the point?”
