“Five-day workweek is something that was developed over 100 years ago. But the US needs to adopt a more European stance before you guys start looking at the four-day week. Start with universal healthcare, five weeks of paid holiday, paid parental leave, and decent pension contributions…”

“Absolutely! When I was working, many others, including myself, always said we would rather work 4 days, 10 hours per day. I know there are pros and cons to this, much depending on the industry you work in. But it seems to me that it would save these companies money as well. I was working 12 hours a day, 5 days a week, which meant they were paying me up to 20 hours of OT. Even if I still worked those 12-hour days, that would have meant only 8 hours of OT. Not to mention, the cost of keeping a building running for an extra day — cutting that would likely reduce their expenses. But what do I know? 🤷‍♀️”

“My daughter works four 10-hour shifts. She loves it. It gives her one day a week to schedule appointments without missing work. I used to work 12-hour night shifts, and I hated it! I was exhausted after three days, and if I had another 12-hour shift due to scheduling, I found it unbearable. I would love four 10-hour shifts.”

“Retired, but when I was working, I worked 6 days a week. I would have been happy with a 5-day week.”

“We were offered a 4-day workweek when they took away our hybrid schedules last summer, and I jumped at the chance immediately. Getting a 3-day weekend every week has been the biggest game changer — you actually get to enjoy your weekend a little bit. I’ve also been able to save a bunch of vacation time by no longer needing to request Fridays off for long weekends. I highly recommend it. If you can make it happen, do it — you won’t regret it!!”

“I was already working a three- to four-day week, depending on coverage, but now that we are short-handed, it would be lovely to go back to that.”

“I am a teacher, and we’re actually on a four-day school week (with some extra days for staff for professional development, etc.). The district made the switch to four days largely to deal with transportation issues (not enough bus drivers, broken buses, etc.), and while it’s definitely nice, it’s also not meeting the needs of our students.”

“It seems like a good idea, but it depends on the type of job. Does it mean 10-hour days for four days? Five 8-hour days with an hour for lunch is the best option. You don’t burn out, and you really cherish the weekend when Friday arrives.”

“I’m not sure, but I would love a 4-day workweek. The weekend is always too short.”

“Would it mean longer workdays if the workweek is shortened to 4 days? Would benefits remain the same? A lot of questions need to be answered for me to give the poll question a thumbs-up.”

“No, but only because I have a 7-nights-on, 7-nights-off position — 100 hours in one week.”

“The mill employees are actually requesting it, and I HATE it! I had this at a previous job, and it just RUINS everything.”

“10-hour days are loooooong. I’m not sure why because 9 hours is fine, but that 10th hour just kills me. I feel like one of the days off is wiped out because I’m so exhausted from the 10-hour shifts.”

“I currently work four 10-hour shifts and am too exhausted to enjoy my three days off. Four or five 8-hour shifts would be better.”

“Since I am never really off work, whether it’s a five-day workweek or a four-day workweek, it hardly makes a difference. I am always working.”
