33.7% of you voted I’m familiar with crowdfunding platforms, but I’ve never used one in yesterday’s poll: Which best describes your experience with crowdfunding platforms?

“Overall, it’s a great way to raise money. I am concerned about transparency, so I do have some doubts. However, it is a handy, niche way to raise money.”

“I find that they are often rushed by desperation and greed, not need. If it is a cause or platform I personally want to contribute to, I will not use the platform and will donate individually.”

“If at all possible, I donate directly to the recipient, allowing them to receive the full amount without a percentage going to the company disbursing the funds.”

“I’m not a huge fan of crowdfunding, but I do donate to friends’ causes.”

“I only contribute to campaigns created by or for individuals I personally know.”

“I’ve contributed to a couple of GoFundMe asks in the past, but it is rare for me. One was to help a former classmate bury her mom, another to help Bobby Phils’ wife with her charity. I’ve also funded a project from a former classmate who was making a movie. It went through, I eventually received a DVD of the movie, and OMG… it was honestly the cheesiest, most ridiculous horror movie I’ve ever seen in my life! But my name was in the credits! That was a lesson learned, lol! You have to be careful who or what you give to. I don’t give to someone I don’t know, regardless of how sad the story is. There are too many people in this world now who are willing to take advantage of folks and their sympathy.”

“If it’s for something local and in my community, then I usually donate.”

“I usually try to keep it local, helping with fundraisers for community causes or individuals displaced by fires or floods.”

“I help support many nonprofit organizations, which advance my concerns. I really don’t need to find more causes that need my support. I will say — everybody should donate regularly to at least one cause that is dear to their heart. ♥️”
