Still In The Box

Welcome back to Poll Of The Day — today’s question is about the things saved for “someday.”

Read books. Analyze ideas. Connect dots.

TODAY’S POLL

TOGETHER WITH SHORTFORM
Your Reading Habit, Upgraded

If you love nonfiction, you’ve probably read a lot of it. But how much do you actually remember — and how often do you connect the dots between books?

That’s where Shortform comes in. Not quick summaries, but deep, thoughtful analysis of the books you care about — from authors like James Clear, Robert Greene, Yuval Noah Harari, and more.

Chapter breakdowns, insights, exercises, and connections across titles that help the ideas really stick.

Revisit what you’ve read in the past. Master what you’re reading in the present.

LAST POLL RESULTS

50.7% of you voted Sometimes in yesterday’s poll: How often do you leave ratings or reviews?

“I love to leave a review when it’s favorable. I always leave reviews on books — it’s good for future research on authors or topics. eBay, Amazon, and such really push to get reviews left, and in cases like those, I’m easily compliant. I read other people’s reviews to help with my perspective.”

“I usually leave reviews for small businesses to help promote them. Otherwise, I have to be really impressed or really disappointed to leave a review for a business. Book reviews are a different matter entirely.”

“I usually only leave reviews if asked. I will also tend to leave reviews if my experience was absolutely horrible or absolutely wonderful!”

“I usually leave ratings either when I like the service or item, or when I’ve had a problem with it.”

“Usually means it was either really good or really bad.”

“I post both positive and negative reviews. I feel like I'm helping others.”

“Mostly when it’s the extremes — either really good or really bad — I feel compelled to let the public know.”

“Mostly for great experiences or really bad experiences.”

“It depends on the situation. If it’s an item that’s a one-time buy and a little expensive, yes. If it’s an experience, trip, or location, usually yes. If it’s something or somewhere I buy or go to a lot, then no. Ratings and reviews can help, but they can also be deceiving. You need to read BOTH the positive and the negative to form your own opinion and decide if it’s worth investing your money or taking a chance. Sometimes I’m pleasantly surprised, but there have been a few times when I was completely disappointed. 🤷‍♀️”

“When I am pleasantly surprised with the product, I leave a review. The same is true if I am totally disappointed — I leave a review so someone else doesn’t waste their time, effort, or money.”

“I think too many people rate only when they have criticism. I only leave ratings when I feel positive about an establishment.”

“If you don’t have something good to say, remain silent.”

“I am more likely to leave a rating or review when someone has done an outstanding job. Going above and beyond should be recognized.”

“Sometimes I leave reviews. I would leave more if companies offered cash rewards or free merchandise — then I would do more.”

“I never use Google or Yelp but do post sometimes on TripAdvisor or the business’s website.”

“I leave ratings and/or reviews when I feel they’re needed or required, and that’s about it. However, I do this as often as need be!”

“I’m interested in reviews when I buy things, so I figure others want to know what people think of the products they buy.”

“I’m getting ready to leave one right now, as a matter of fact.”

“My pet peeve is receiving multiple requests and reminders to review an item or service immediately after its purchase — give me some time!”

“I would review more, but I always seem to forget when I get home. If you’re running a business, reviews are a great way to get input to improve your product.”

“I believe the only way for companies to know if they’re doing good or bad is for people to leave a review. I fill out almost all that come to me, except for those ‘stay on the line to fill out our survey’ ones…”

“I only leave a rating if it was 5 or 1 star — the middle is so predictable! Bad products or services need to be told, and superior services or goods do, too.”

“Only leave ratings when I’m REALLY impressed.”

“I leave a review if I have a strong personal connection to the place. I vote with my money/patronage/referrals otherwise.”

“Honesty is the best policy.”
