The Cup That Starts The Day
Welcome back to Poll Of The Day — today’s subject may be the most dependable part of many mornings.

LAST POLL RESULTS
35.9% of you voted 🪴 I don’t currently have a pet in yesterday’s poll: What type of pet do you currently have, if any?
“Don’t have a pet and don’t desire to get one.”
“I don’t want the responsibility right now.”
“My schedule does not allow time for a pet.”
“It’s very hard to have a pet if you live a spontaneous life. ‘Ohh, let’s go to Grandma’s today!’ or ‘Let’s go to a major league baseball game this weekend’ suddenly becomes, ‘WHAT ABOUT THE DOG/CAT?’ I love them, but it takes time and MONEY to care for an animal — unless you have close friends who don’t mind helping out!”
“I have a realistic-looking cat purse that I just love. Honestly, I prefer it more than having a live animal!”
“I love this question. There’s a dog parade that files down our block in the morning, all dutifully carrying their waste bags. It’s so nice to see people bonding with their pets. We had two cats when our kids were little and throughout their teens — they were such a big part of the family. We still reminisce about them during some of our conversations. I was allergic to cats, but somehow I was completely fine with them.”
“I grew up with cats but haven’t had any pets since I was 11. :( Today, I occasionally work as a freelance pet sitter, and I’m still looking forward to having a new best friend — or two — of my own! I’m open to eventually having a dog, but cats first and foremost.”
“I miss my wiggle-butt Corgi and can’t wait to have another one!”
“One dog.”
“I have a small Shih Tzu dog.”
“Maltipoo.”
“We have a chocolate-brown and cream miniature Dachshund named Scotcheroo — ‘Roo’ for short.”
“Two dogs.”
“We have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels that require lots of attention and love.”
“2 Papillons — very friendly.”
“Our 3rd rescue dog!”
“Multiple dogs. We downsized from St. Bernards to Puggles and mutts, but all of our dogs have been rescues since we moved to our current location 26 years ago.”
“I believe in rescue and adoption. I miss my Bella — I rescued her when she was 11 and had her until she died in my arms at 18. After a year of grieving, I took on a rambunctious young one last summer. She’s a handful! Three years old and full of anxiety. But Bugsley is here to stay, even if it kills me, lol!”
“Lots of fish, and a dog which I consider one of the children.”
“5-month-old Mini Aussie-Doodle, 4 bettas, a 10-gallon tank with random fish, a 2-year-old son, and a 3-year-old daughter.”
“I have a tiny dog and a tortoise in my backyard.”
“I’ve always wanted more pets — especially big dogs — but for now, I just have fish.”
“I have two cats and a fish.”
“Had a bird previously.”
“My family rescues birds, and they can be just like dogs — very smart, funny, and cute. I travel too much to have a pet today, plus I hate poop, so it may not be in the cards for me.”
“We run a cat rescue. We also have one dog.”
“We are a cat-and-dog family.”
“2 dogs, 2 inside cats, and 1 outside cat. Recently lost the eldest cat. :(”
“2 dogs, 1 cat!”
“I had 2 dogs that I loved. Now I have a cat that I truly LOVE.”
“I had dogs growing up but have had cats most of my adult life. My cutie cuddle-bug boy — I’ve had him since he was a kitten — and he’s 17 now. Going strong.”
“You say ‘cat,’ I say sweet child of mine. She may have been birthed by another, but this little bonded baby is my whole world — and I think/hope I (and another certain human) am hers.”
“Gracey is the best!”
“Although I have had 4 dogs over the last 25 years.”
“We live in a rural area, and one year a random feral mama cat decided our porch area and hosta bed was the perfect place to have every. single. dang. litter of kittens she birthed for the next three years. We would try to find homes for the kittens, but ended up keeping one here and there that nobody wanted. By the time mama cat disappeared (we assumed she died), we had kept five of her babies as our own — all from different litters and each with their own spicy personality.”
“5 cats — the more, the better 😊.”
“3 kitties to be precise.”
“Two cats.”
“And a horse.”
“Cat and 2 horses.”
“2 cats and one dog.”
“Two cats and a dog. Life used to be so hard — now everything is easy because of them.”
“I need my cat(s) to keep me sane!”
“My cat brings out the very best in me — today and every day.”
“A cat has us, and the cat also has a rabbit.”
“I have always had cats and dogs — both large and small, wild and tame. I’ve also driven across the United States (including Alaska) with a tame dog and cat. I feel a home is not a home without pets. I would have goats, except I live in an area prone to hurricanes where evacuations are necessary. My travel trailer only has room for the 6 dogs and cats.”
“I have always had pets, and I love them. I know they are extra work and responsibility — and often inconvenient, especially if you want to travel — but I know I would miss it if I didn’t have one.”
“I believe you meant to ask what kind of human your pet has, as pets generally are the heads of the household. Humans merely work for the benefits and comforts of their pets.”
