Welcome back to Poll Of The Day — today’s question is all about the layer that never lets you down.

TODAY’S POLL
Which jacket works best for you all year long? |
LAST POLL RESULTS
39.6% of you voted Sometimes — it depends on the trip in Friday’s poll: When you travel, whether domestically or internationally, how often do you visit local grocery stores?
“I go for the novelty, not to get meal essentials.”
“Usually it’s to check out the wines and possibly buy some. Also to look for spicy condiments that are unavailable here.”
“It depends on the trip, but it’s fun to see what local foods are new to me and try some of them!”
“Totally depends on the destination and how long the stay is. For a few days, likely no. But for a longer stay, it’s always good to have snacks and drinks/water on hand. It also likely depends on the amenities available wherever we’re staying. But I can say that grocery shopping on vacation is not usually a priority for us.”
“I like to get a hotel room with a small fridge, so I find a grocery store to stock up while I’m there.”
“I have babies, so I always have to go. Plus, I really enjoy cooking with local ingredients, so it’s fun to check out what they have to offer.”
“Also, I have Celiac disease, so it’s often a necessity! Seeking out local foods at the grocery store that I can eat in a pinch if I have trouble finding a safe restaurant is just part of traveling for me.”
“Visiting local grocery stores is one of my favorite things to do. I never do tours or tourist attractions. I learn the most about a place by visiting local grocers.”
“Always, especially if it’s a road trip. Or if I’m flying to visit a friend, we’ll always go to their local grocery store for food during my visit.”
“LOVE FINDING NEW THINGS.”
“A fun way to learn about the local culture while traveling internationally is to visit grocery stores or markets. You can also learn the different names of vegetables and meat market items, which can make you more knowledgeable when ordering in restaurants.”
“I visit grocery stores in every city I visit. Especially as a shareholder in a major US grocery company, if one is located where I am, I stop in to see the store conditions and customer service levels. I like to see what the competition is doing.”
“There’s definitely something cool about checking out other grocery stores. It seems like we always end up in one to get something, so it’s usually an interesting experience.”
“They were selling peaches at $10 a pound at Public Market in Seattle. I found that interesting.”
“When I was in France, my friend did not want to go out to eat at night, so we went to a local store and she got a sandwich. I would rather go to a cute bistro.”
“I’m not cooking on vacation!”
“I don’t get around much anymore.”
