The Midday Moment That Can Go Either Way

Welcome back to Poll Of The Day — today’s question is all about how people power through... or pause.

TODAY’S POLL

LAST POLL RESULTS

33.6% of you voted Rarely in Friday’s poll: How often do you wear a hat?

“I had a squamous cell carcinoma removed from the top of my head, and I need to wear a head covering whenever I’m outside.”

“Actually, I’m currently ‘stuck’ wearing a head covering as I’m going through chemo right now. I have two hats and a wig. Otherwise, I prefer to go hat-free — except when the temperature drops below about 10°.”

“USED TO MOSTLY WHEN GOLFING OR VERY COLD WEATHER.”

“Only in winter/when it’s going to be really cold.”

“Daily in the winter.”

“Winter weather.”

“In winter, a warm beanie or cap — but a ‘hat’? No.”

“I answered ‘never’ because I was thinking of a baseball-type hat. I wear a hat all the time in the winter!!”

“Mainly in the winter, as there’s not a lot of ‘insulation’ on my head!”

“I used to wear a wool hat in winter 40 years ago, and baseball caps before that. I can’t wear them anymore because they give me a headache immediately. I’ve resorted to wearing a hooded sweatshirt if the weather calls for it.”

“Depends on the weather — I ALWAYS wear a hat when I’m outside in the summer. In the winter, if I’ll be outside for a while, I wear a hat. Otherwise, not so much.”

“For special occasions or when the weather requires it.”

“The only time I’ll put a hat on is in a downpour — to keep my glasses dry and be able to see.”

“Really only when it’s cold or extra sunny!”

“To shield from the sun in summer and keep my ears warm in winter.”

“Wear a hat while working in the sun in the afternoons.”

“Just when I’m going to be out in the sun for an extended period of time. I don’t usually wear a hat every day because it ruins my hair.”

“I wear a hat if it’s really sunny or my hair is unruly.”

“Sometimes — especially on a bad hair day, lol! I do like sporting my Tar Heel ball caps, especially during the season and March Madness. I just received a cute Coke bucket hat that I won, so that will definitely come in handy at the beach. 😁🌞”

“Only on weekends — especially when I have to hide how long I’ve gone without washing my hair…”

“Only on my morning runs to hide the bed head.”

“I wear one every day when I walk.”

“Daily — but only because I wear one while I walk my dog, mostly to keep spiderwebs out of my face early in the morning.”

“Sun protection when walking.”

“Only when I’m cutting the grass or hiking.”

“Just a baseball cap or Tilley hat for exercising/hiking.”

“Mostly when I go to a baseball game — go, Giants!”

“A ‘hat?’ Never… A ‘visor?’ Every day it’s even a little sunny or bright.”

“My visor is essential on sunny days for my walks.”

“Protect my baby blues!”

“Blonde, and I prefer protecting my eyes with a hat brim instead of sunglasses.”

“I live somewhere that’s always sunny, so I don’t leave the house without a sun hat and SPF.”

“Protection from the sun is pretty important for balding men in Florida.”

“Went bald many years ago — hat keeps my head warmer.”

“I’m mostly bald and shave my head, so I like to wear hats whenever I go out — for protection from the sun in summer and warmth in winter. Plus, it’s always good to have a hat on in case you bump your head on something (much less ouchy), and I can rep my favorite sports teams, bands, etc.”

“As a very fair-skinned person, I wear hats to block the sun. I don’t wear them as a fashion statement.”

“Only a sun hat at the beach.”

“I plan to start wearing sun hats regularly. Too many people I know have been diagnosed with skin cancer that may have been prevented by wearing a hat while out in the sun.”

“With a history of skin cancer, I wear a hat at all times.”

“I’m a boho headband kind of gal. I’m active, so my hair is almost always restrained by a hippie headband. I do have a wonderful straw cowgirl hat to keep off the summer heat when needed.”

“I WISH I looked good in hats because I love them!!!!! But I’ve tried all different types — cowgirl, bolo, baseball caps — and none of them look even decent on me. I can get away with a sporty sun visor, so I wear those once in a while in the summer.”

“Have plenty, like the idea — but can never keep one on my head all day.”

“They look ridiculous on me! My head is very small, so even if I wanted to wear one, it has to be a kid’s size. However, I do wear one every time we walk!”

“I wish I could find a hat I look good in. Everyone has their own look that a hat can accentuate — I just haven’t found mine. I still have my hair, but when I wear a cap, it looks like I could be bald. My wife thinks it’s hilarious — and of course, I do too.”

“I love hats in theory but don’t find wearing them practical. I despise the ubiquitous baseball caps so many people wear — especially indoors!!”

“Hey — you guys who wear BASEBALL HATS inside, and worse yet, in restaurants — STOP IT! It’s a surefire way to label yourself as unsophisticated… and we’ll leave it at that. Being kind. Hats are for outdoors.”

“I don’t wear hats… unless I’m part of an elaborate plan to prank my coworker by switching hats with my other coworkers on April Fool’s Day.”
