The Playlist Comfort Zone Is Very Real
Welcome back to Poll Of The Day — today’s question is all about the music people return to again and again.

TODAY’S POLL
How has your interest in discovering new music changed over time? |
LAST POLL RESULTS
22.8% of you voted I love cruises in Friday’s poll: How do you feel about going on cruises?
“I’ve been on 30 cruises. It’s an easier way to travel — unpack once and do as little or as much as you want. I’ve met people on cruises who are still friends today, and we look forward to traveling together again.”
“You get to see tons of places, and you never have to pack and unpack every day.”
“I love the convenience of unpacking only once, but I find the constraints of having to be back on board at a certain time limit my ability to explore and meet locals.”
“Cruises are awesome — there’s truly something for everyone.”
“I’ve been on about 25 cruises — I love it.”
“They are fun and a great way to travel.”
“The right ship, leaving from the right port and sailing to places you’ve never been, is one of the best vacations ever.”
“Cruising provides me with opportunities to see places I otherwise would not visit. The sea relaxes me. I save until I can afford a balcony stateroom.”
“We fought the cruise idea for a while, primarily because the good ones are so expensive. If you like exotic places to visit and getting there in style, it’s well worth it. At least once in a lifetime, everyone should give it a go.”
“I’ve only ever been on one, but if I do it again, I’d rather take a cruise to an all-inclusive resort for a week and then head back on the cruise ship. Does anyone know of any that do that?”
“Love them, but they can be germ factories. You just need to know how to stay healthy and safe.”
“I love cruises despite being a huge hypochondriac. Somehow, the threat of getting norovirus doesn’t scare me. BUT, the hantavirus threat DOES freak me out, so I’m not sure if or when I’ll go on a cruise again.”
“We avoid large-ship cruises and enjoy the much smaller ships.”
“I’m more of a river cruiser than the open ocean.”
“I’ve been on four very enjoyable European river cruises. The boats are much smaller than those behemoth sea cruise ships. The number of passengers is usually between 100 and 150, so it’s very manageable. And they actually dock, so you can get on or off pretty much whenever you like.”
“I’ve only been on two cruises, but I’ve enjoyed them. I hate all the crowds, the port shopping, and trying to figure out excursions, but the food and activities are great!”
“Unless the cruise has really good stops, it’s basically an eating and drinking fest.”
“I clicked occasionally, seeing as I haven’t been on one since December 2000. But I do love them! My initial plan was to take my son on an Alaskan cruise as a graduation present, but the pandemic got in the way — my son graduated in 2020. That will still happen, but I’m waiting for the chaos in this country to die down first. We obviously have more important things to deal with at the current time. Plus, I can’t stand in a TSA line for three hours with my health issues.”
“I enjoyed an incomparable cruise to Antarctica, South Georgia, and the Falklands on Poseidon Expeditions in 2022. I’ve also had great cruises on Princess (Western Caribbean), Holland America (Alaska), and Oceania (Norway/Scotland).”
“It says it all — I haven’t been on a cruise yet.”
“I am interested, but they are prohibitively expensive.”
“As a solo traveler, the pricing is based on two people per cabin.”
“I just got a passport but am still saving my money for a cruise.”
“I’d try one of the cruises that doesn’t have thousands of guests (a floating petri dish!), but I can’t afford those.”
“I’m semi-open to the idea, but of course, the horror stories about illnesses cast a dubious cloud over the thought. I may roll the dice one day...”
“I would consider it, but it wouldn’t be close to my first choice. The idea of being stuck in a metal tube with that many people... yuck.”
“I’d love to go on a scholastic cruise and return with a plethora of new or researched information. I guess that still counts as a cruise, but I’d dread one where pleasure was the main desire or goal.”
“Every time I think about going on one, something goes wrong on a cruise ship.”
“TRAVELING IS DANGEROUS LATELY. SOME CRUISES TAKE YOU TO PLACES WITH INFESTATION OR DISEASE.”
“The more I read the news about cruise health and crime issues, the less I want to return.”
“I went on a Disney cruise as a teen and loved it. That was my first and only cruise vacation. Everything was first-class, as expected by Disney. The food was incredible. I still think about how ripe the pineapple was — the best I’ve ever tasted. I’m so very grateful that I had that experience, but I think I still prefer non-cruise vacations.”
“Cruises? No, thank you!”
“In and out too quickly.”
“I get seasick.”
“I’m prone to getting seasick, and the depths of the ocean terrify me. I’m never going on a cruise.”
“I get seasick very easily and have heard too many horror stories about people being stuck on cruise ships when something bad happens.”
“I get seasick, so I have to take medicine. But the real deterrent is the out-of-control behavior of some of the other guests. I couldn’t tolerate that, and I’m uncertain whether more expensive cruises are any different.”
“Too many entitled people in a small space.”
“The idea of being trapped on a boat with a ton of other people is very unappealing to me.”
“Cruise ships are floating petri dishes!”
“I’ve said for years that cruise ships are just floating petri dishes. Add to that, I’ve talked with former ship employees who say the ships are notoriously neglected, and some are downright hazardous.”
“We went on about three many years ago, before all the new viruses. Life was easier then — now, no way.”
“I’ve never gone on one, but now, after hearing about the recent hantavirus, I never will.”
“Never, never, ever — gross!!”
“And die from a virus? I’ll pass.”
“It sounds like hell — if it floated.”
“Absolutely the most boring way to travel! I don’t care at all to float around eating and drinking all day. I couldn’t care less about shipboard entertainment, games, activities, or shopping. To me, that’s just a waste of time when I could be at a museum, a gallery, or some other interesting public place. A cruise ship is just a floating resort. And yeah, I’d never go to a resort either! Most of them are in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do but the same stuff as a cruise. Never. 😁”
“I worked on an offshore boat, so I don’t need a cruise.”
