“I live in a rural area and walk a block twice a day to take care of my dad. There’s always litter on the roadside and in the ditch.”

“I live in Colorado. People throw trash everywhere out here…”

“New Mexico used to have this great program called Toss No Más (‘toss no more’), and schools and communities would go out and clean up areas. This was especially great in small communities like ours! Now they’ve moved on to a Breaking Bad theme (‘Breaking Bad Habits’), which is funny or whatever, but it doesn’t have the added benefit of a community trash clean-up vibe. Anyway, all that to say, litter — especially along rural roads — is a problem. Why the heck would you throw trash out the window when we live in such a beautiful environment?!”

“There’s trash everywhere where I live…”

“It’s rampant in East Tennessee. I pick it up if I can… or make a point to walk to an area and collect it. It’s mostly aluminum cans, fast-food containers, and liquor bottles.”

“I live in a big city so there is trash everywhere. Sadly.”

“I almost always notice trash in public, whether it’s on city streets or in parks. But I also notice that there seem to be fewer trash receptacles in towns as well as cities. In any case, more and more people seem to be ignoring the advice to hold onto their candy wrappers, plastic water bottles, and other trash until they can find proper waste receptacles — even if that means waiting until they reach home.”

“I live near a high school. Unfortunately, the students are careless with their trash.”

“I guess people haven’t been educated enough, or they’re just a**holes.”

“It’s sick how many people are so self-centered and uncaring about the world we all HAVE TO LIVE IN. The ‘me, me, me’ society is despicable.”

“I’ve come to the conclusion that only a very few people litter intentionally. The rest just flies out of truck beds or out of trash cans, etc.”

“It is increasing! Initially, I saw it on the sides of highways. Then in parking lots, where they leave their trash from having a meal in the car. Now they throw it into nature.”

“When I’m out for any reason — every single time. I’m not going to say anything here that any of my fellow poll takers won’t already say. It’s just sad, that’s all.”

“I see litter every time I go out in public — trash tossed from vehicles along the roads, in parking lots, in fields beside roads, anywhere people go. They can’t wait to arrive at their destination to discard their garbage. Then there are fools who toss lit cigarettes out of their vehicles.”

“I’ve been anti-litter since the ’70s. That includes cigarette butts, and anyone near me best not litter them! Back then, it seemed everyone ‘flicked their butts’ — it was more common than not. Still to this day, I notice litter, and heaven forbid you litter near me!!!”

“Not only do I notice it, but I pick it up!”

“I usually pick it up, too.”

“And no matter where I see it, I pick it up and put it in my pocket to throw away when I find a trash can.”

“I used to just pick it up and throw it away in the nearest trash can. But since the COVID-19 pandemic, I haven’t — because who knows what kind of germs are on that litter!”

“It just seems to me that most people don’t give a 🐀’s butt anymore about where they drop their trash, and personally, it makes me VERY angry! I honestly can’t pick up everyone’s garbage and really don’t want to, but I do try!”

“And there is no excuse for it! Just laziness!”

“Litter gets under my skin. It’s such an entitled, lazy, inconsiderate action. Just wait until you find a trash can!”

“People who litter are very inconsiderate and lazy. Everyone should take the time to clean up after themselves. It’s good karma, and everything will look better, too.”

“It makes me wonder if the people who litter have the same mindset in their own homes?”

“What is it with people and that kind of common sense?! And that too goes for recycling! It drives me crazy!”
