Welcome back to Poll Of The Day — where some prefer the handbook, others write their own.

TODAY’S POLL
When learning how to use something new, which approach do you typically prefer? |
LAST POLL RESULTS
57.7% of you voted Liquid in yesterday’s poll: Which kind of laundry detergent do you typically use?
“I prefer EASY for any household task, and liquid is easy.”
“We’ve used liquid laundry detergent for over 15 years now.”
“I personally use liquid. When I was younger, I used powder, and it almost always seemed to stick to my jeans or tops and not rinse out. Not sure why — likely because I tried to fit everything into one load and overloaded the washer. But once I switched to liquid, I’ve never gone back!”
“We use liquid because we don’t like the coating on pods. It’s typically cheaper, too!”
“I’ve never tried pods — especially after the silliness a few years ago — and I feel powder clumps and can stain.”
“Pods are messy and leave a gooey residue. Powder doesn’t always fully dissolve.”
“Currently using liquid but switch between liquid and powder frequently. Powder is less sticky, and I prefer it — but you have to know good brands, since many leave white residue on clothes.”
“You have more control over the amount with liquid laundry detergent. It’s easier to use, especially for small loads.”
“It’s liquid Tide for our family — it seems to work best.”
“Usually Seventh Generation or another greener option…”
“I have an HE washer. I started with pods when it was new, then realized I’d been using way too much liquid per load. Now I use a good-quality detergent and pour just enough to equal a pod — my clothes come out clean, not sticky. Thanks for featuring so many of my posts — I love this daily question!”
“I have a top-loading machine right now, so pods — but we’re moving, and I’ll have a front-loading one, so back to liquid!”
“Oops — actually liquid Woolite for clothing. Pods for bedding, kitchen, etc.”
“Used pods for the first time recently. Not too bad.”
“It’s easy and convenient.”
“I use pods from Blueland — solid, with no plastic.”
“I use Blueland discs — safer, eco-friendly, with no plastic containers.”
“I don’t like these plastic pods. There’s constant talk about microplastics, and then pods get invented — make up your minds, please.”
“The amount of fuel and space wasted transporting and storing water in laundry detergent is ridiculous — just wasteful. Powder all the way.”
“Powder is more effective because liquid runs out too fast.”
“Powder, but in concentrated cubes — Nellie’s. I recommend it for sensitive skin.”
“Mix of types — like laundry sheets, which keep plastic jugs and cardboard out of landfills and take up less shelf space, too. I’m surprised laundry sheets weren’t an option in today’s poll.”
“You left out dry tabs — we’ve been using them for years. No plastic bottles, easy to travel with, and they do a great job.”
“I use sheets (Earth Breeze), but that wasn’t an option.”
“Mainly use Tru Earth detergent sheets — sometimes Rockin’ Green.”
“BIODEGRADABLE SHEETS. ECO-FRIENDLY.”
“I use pods for less mess and now mix in newer laundry sheets.”
“I’ve gone through phases using just one type of laundry detergent. There are things I like about each, along with drawbacks. Now I use detergents that are more compatible with what I’m washing.”
