LAST POLL RESULTS

25.5% of you voted Always in Friday’s poll: Do you wash your hands when you first get home after being out?

“Always, as I work with animals and I’m always washing my hands.”

“I wash my hands, even though I use hand sanitizer as soon as I get back in my car.”

“Always wash my hands after doing something outside, especially emptying the trash or doing yard work.”

“Even as a child, the first thing we had to do when we came home was wash our hands. I can still hear my mother yelling, ‘Don’t put your dirty hands on anything — go wash your hands!’ Now, after COVID, it seems like I’m always washing my hands. It’s a good, healthy habit to have.”

“Even before COVID, I was a handwashing practitioner. This practice developed when I had kids, and I required all of them and their friends to wash their hands when they entered the house. The friends thought I was weird.”

“I was doing this long before COVID. Maybe it’s an OCD-lite thing.”

“I also take off my shoes before coming into the house and change my clothes before I sit on the couch or bed.”

“I even take tissues in my pocket, so that when I go to a restroom, I don’t touch the handle after washing my hands.”

“And I remind my husband to be sure to wash his hands when he returns home, too!”

“My wife is a germophobe. Need I say more!”

“SO MUCH GARBAGE OUT THERE.”

“Always after public transit.”

“I wash my hands often and always have sanitizer handy. I worked with the public too long. LOL. The stories I could tell.”

“As I work in healthcare, I wash my hands before leaving work. However, if I’m carrying soiled clothing when I get home, they get washed again.”

“Probably 75% of the time when I enter the house, I’m going straight into the kitchen or the bathroom, and handwashing happens. If I come in and flop down on the couch, handwashing waits.”

“Wish I could check ‘always,’ but only sometimes. It depends on where I was and what I was doing. Being immunocompromised, you would think I would know better. And I’ve obviously paid the price several times, picking up cold germs and such. But, like everything else, old habits die hard!”

“It all depends on where I went and what I was doing or handling.”

“If I’m working outside or with something sticky. I’m not a germaphobe enough to wash them every time I return home.”

“Only if I’ve touched a railing or escalator handgrip.”

“I keep a small bottle of 91% alcohol in my pocket and use it often when I’m touching things, such as groceries, gas pump handles, door handles, shopping carts, the pen at the bank, and the table and chairs at a restaurant. It’s an easy way to sterilize your hands. Dirty hands rubbing your eyes and mouth are easy ways to get sick. Keep them clean, avoid disease!”

“During COVID-19, I washed my hands every time I came home. My wife was diagnosed with COVID-19 and shared it with me. She became very sick, but I didn’t. The doctor said I was asymptomatic due to my body fighting COVID-19. After that, I stopped washing my hands unless they were dirty. I contracted COVID-19 a second time and had no symptoms again.”

“When I get home, I don’t stop and wash my hands unless they’re ‘grubby.’ I get home, and there are things I need to be doing. But hey, thanks — now it’s gonna cross my mind, and I’ll probably start washing my hands when I get home.”

“It doesn’t cross my mind, but looking at the poll, maybe I should…”
