This One Travels Well
Welcome back to Poll Of The Day — today’s question is all about what survives the journey home.

TODAY’S POLL
Do you ever keep foreign currency from places you’ve traveled? |
LAST POLL RESULTS
38.4% of you voted I enjoy having things that reflect my interests and personality. in yesterday’s poll: Which best describes your relationship with stuff?
“Everything is frickin’ expensive, so ideally, anything I buy serves a good purpose. But I’d also like the things I buy to matter to me and be something I actually enjoy.”
“I got too much stuff!”
“A bit too much, I reckon, and as I age, decluttering and sizing down are good things to do... less is more when it comes to enjoyment. It’s easier to downsize if you can give things away to someone who will appreciate the history and your memories.”
“You spend your whole life collecting things and pieces you love and enjoy. But as you get older, everyone starts wanting you to downsize and get rid of things you still want.”
“While occasionally collecting ‘stuff’ pays off — gold and silver over the past 30 years, for example — other collections take time and effort to diminish.”
“I HAVE BEEN COLLECTING FOR 55 YEARS. LOVE MY STUFF.”
“The downside is that too much of a good thing can be clutter.”
“It’s always a battle! We just moved and purged so, so many things, but there’s always something new that catches my eye...”
“Actually, you don’t have an option for ‘I HAVE lots but would like to edit my clutter more toward somewhere in the middle!’ I’m getting to the point where my collector/packrat ways have turned into clutter that induces stress. Time for a good purge!”
“I have a hard time getting rid of stuff I no longer use. I’ve accumulated a lot of things over my lifetime, and I’m trying to purge right now. We’ll see...”
“I do keep way too much crap and feel sorry for my wife and kids when they have to clean it all out as they are relishing in my inheritance!”
“I want to be ‘less is more,’ but unfortunately, I’m ‘the more, the merrier.’ I love being prepared, but I end up with so much random stuff taking up space.”
“Borderline hoarder, according to my family. I say I’m a maximalist, lol.”
“I chose the middle. My house looks like I’m a hoarder, but my condo is the exact opposite — pristine. I do enjoy having things that show my style, though. One of these days I’ll get around to cleaning out the house, lol!”
“I have lots of clothes — summer and winter — because I left a winter climate for a summer one and go back occasionally. Otherwise, I try to keep it simple. I have some souvenirs from travel and books, along with my art studio, which tends to get jumbled.”
“There are certain items I hold on to for sentimental reasons. For the most part, though, you have to clear out the old, so you can explore and enjoy the new.”
“I used to be a collector of things, but then my husband came along and wanted to get rid of the clutter. Now, we’re trying to get rid of stuff, so no one has to deal with it after we’re gone.”
“At the life stage where if I can’t eat it, drink it, or recycle it, I don’t want or need it.”
“Minimalist all the way!”
“I don’t ever see myself hoarding anything. Famous last words...”
