“I went to elementary school in the early 1960s. The card catalog was our only choice besides roaming the aisles.”

“Anyone over 25 who went to school should have had to use a card catalog. That’s the only way you would’ve known how and where to find a book or other form of media in a school or public library. I truly miss the days before the internet because I’m now positive that modern tech has — and continues to — dumb society and future generations down. IMO... 🤷‍♀️”

“It was fun pulling out the drawers with those typed index cards. Now you do it on the computer.”

“Years ago, I was a student librarian. I had to know all about the Dewey Decimal System and how to use the card catalog. I typed many cards back then. I enjoyed it immensely. Plus, I got first choice to read new books when they arrived.”

“I’m still missing the card catalogs!! They go with books like digital library catalogs go with ebooks. It’s not the same feeling. Yes, they’re great in a bind, but they’re not aesthetically pleasing.”

“Yes, I have used a card catalog. You have to hand it to the people who set that system up — it’s very handy. I think we do need some type of paper system as a backup, just in case technology breaks down.”

“I had to Google it... but I said no. Most of the time, I asked the librarian for help finding a book. Definitely showing my age here lol.”
