LAST POLL RESULTS
60.1% of you voted It depends on the situation or relationship in yesterday’s poll: When you visit someone’s home, what’s your usual approach?
“Totally depends on the situation, occasion, reason for the visit, etc. It’s not always about presents — it’s the presence that’s appreciated.”
“Presence is better than present!”
“I love to bring something but won’t if it would be uncomfortable — or if I’m visiting as their helper for some project, then I’m the gift.”
“In my social circle, gifts aren’t necessary at casual gatherings at homes or restaurants. At special celebrations, it depends on the type of celebration and whether gifts are expected.”
“If it’s a party or an occasion, I’ll bring something — but if I’m just visiting, then no.”
“If it’s a celebration or my first time visiting, a bottle of wine or flowers is always a nice gesture.”
“Sometimes bring wine, beer, or liquor. It depends on the situation.”
“Even when they say don’t bother, bring a bottle of wine or an appropriate item for the occasion.”
“We always ask what we can bring and feel awkward if we show up without something. Especially since we are a family of 5, and my kids eat a lot.”
“If we’re coming for a visit, we’ll try to pick up a meal — something like that. Of course, we always send a thank-you note.”
“In spring, we pick daffodils and irises from our yard; in summer and fall, we pick zinnias. In winter, we bring wine or food.”
“I can’t go empty-handed.”
“I always bring something to a friend’s place, but it’s not food, drink, or flowers — it’s a hug. All my friends love my hugs. Good to spread the love and joy no matter where you are.”
“Always.”
“Being a good guest increases your chances of being invited again! It depends on the visit, but if it’s a gathering of any kind, it’s great to share something to drink or eat.”
“Bring something when it’s their birthday or a holiday.”
“I never ever get invited to anyone’s house! If someone ever invites me, I would definitely bring something! But I don’t know what it would be!”
“Unless there’s a specific event going on, I feel absolutely no obligation to bring anything with me unless it is requested!”
