LAST POLL RESULTS

28.1% of you voted Yes, somewhat in yesterday’s poll: Have you recently cut back on or stopped buying anything due to the rising cost of living?

“My family eats more meals at home now. My husband and I split the cooking duties, so it’s not as stressful. Plus, it’s healthier!”

“I don’t really cook, so I often go out to eat. I’ve been doing that less lately because it’s gotten crazy expensive, and I’m learning to cook.”

“Prices are very high.”

“Things in general are higher in cost. I’ve cut back on unnecessary things — they’re now more of an occasional treat.”

“Fewer groceries as I am getting meals delivered.”

“Everything!”

“Definitely — some places a little, and others as much as possible. For anyone to say prices aren’t up is just plain idiotic. I’m sure you know who I’m talking about.”

“We’re just getting dumber and dumber, even though we think we’re advanced. We’re never satisfied — everyone just wants more, more, more. It’s sad, all the terrible things people do and say, and no one wants to compromise.”

“It’s always good to shop for the best deal, no matter the economic conditions. With that in mind, we all have to adjust our spending accordingly. Everything is cyclical, so we must adapt to the ups and downs.”

“Mostly I’ve tried to stop driving except when absolutely necessary!”

“Spend just enough on groceries to get through the week, because living 25 miles from town, gas cuts into the overall household budget. Had a medical emergency that has dipped into savings, and NOTHING is getting cheaper!”

“It sure hurts to fill the tank, so I’m driving a little less.”

“I drive less to cut back on gasoline purchases. When I’m out, I have a list of things I NEED. Biweekly or triweekly shopping is now my goal. I also do comparative shopping online before shopping in person.”

“Prices are increasing; income is stagnating. It’s a bad situation to be in currently.”

“Everything is going up but my paycheck, so I’ve cut back in every single area I possibly can to save money for necessities.”

“I cannot afford many things.”

“Can barely afford the necessities!”

“I try to use coupons or buy stuff on sale.”

“Food cost is significant. Tipping is out of control.”

“Used to eat out every day at work for lunch. Now I’m doing the sack lunch thing…”

“We have cut out going out to eat, any luxury or non-needed items, and canceled almost all travel except for my daughter’s lacrosse tournaments.”

“Simpler diet, less eating out, fewer coffee shop stops, better errand planning when driving, fewer vacations, and less spending on concerts or other entertainment.”

“Cutting back on a few things, especially travel.”

“I downsized to a studio apartment, so I wouldn’t have to cut back on travel spending.”

“I’ve been traveling for the last month and hiding from the problems back home. Luckily, I haven’t felt the rise yet, but I head home on Monday and know I’ll feel it then.”

“I’m moving and expecting my first baby, so life is just expensive right now.”

“We were never really big spenders beforehand. Having young kids plus pets means you gotta spend what you gotta spend.”

“I am not particularly a ‘big spender’ in the best of times. And I am among the fortunate few whose income hasn’t been affected economically by this President’s policies.”

“We’ve never been people who spend money irresponsibly, so we still purchase what we need, but perhaps haven’t been eating out as much.”

“We’re retired, but live well within our means. We shop at places like Aldi, which is about 40% cheaper on average than our local Publix. We splurge for holidays — spent quite a bit on a prime rib (Wild Fork) for Easter — but are always on the lookout for 99-cent chicken legs.”

“We have more income than we need, retired, and are actually growing our assets. We do that by not overindulging in luxuries — just buying the basics, one car that gets 40 mpg (Hybrid Sienna). The weather’s been bad lately, so not even the beach.”

“I’m in rural America, which is not so bad.”

“Just save more.”
