Your Steps Add Up
Welcome back to Poll Of The Day — today’s question is walking the walk.

TODAY’S POLL
On average, how many steps do you get in each day? |
LAST POLL RESULTS
43.1% of you voted Yes, a few times in yesterday’s poll: Have you ever called into a radio station?
“Yeah, but it’s been a long time since I have — like, pre-internet days.”
“It was a million years ago, ‘back in the day.’”
“Back in the day of rotary phones… 6 of the 7 numbers already dialed, with a finger in the hole for the last one, waiting for the radio announcer to say when. Shout-out to WIBG in Philly.”
“Mainly for song requests back before music apps.”
“Years ago, you had to call in to request songs or dedicate songs to someone. We would call in and request the songs we wanted played to record our mixtapes.”
“The last time I called was when I was about 10 years old. I requested a song. Good times.”
“Way back when I was in my teens.”
“A few times when I was in high school, but I haven’t called a radio station since probably 2011.”
“I used to call all the time to request songs!”
“Child of the ’80s… of course I did!”
“Called in back in the ’70s and won an album!!”
“I’ve called for contests and some sports talk.”
“For contests.”
“A few times and won a few contests!”
“Lots of times, for lots of different reasons. I have won a ton of tickets to concerts and sporting events from doing so.”
“Many times for contests, and one time for an interview and to ask a guest a question.”
“I actually had a friend who was on a talk show promoting his book on child development. I called in to ask a question, and he knew it was me. It was great. Now I would never because I don’t listen to call-in shows.”
“50 years ago, I spoke with Arnold Schwarzenegger. He said my name! I’m still smiling. :)”
“Only to try and win tickets for something, not to call in and speak on a certain subject.”
“And I won tickets to a show!”
“Oh yes, many times. I have won money and many concert tickets.”
“It’s how you win really cool trips and concert tickets!”
“I’m always trying to win tickets for shows. Plus, I make requests. But most of the time now, everything is online, even for radio.”
“Back in the day, before podcasts and social media, people listened to AM radio and attempted to be the caller picked to win prizes. I tried many times but was only chosen once.”
“Oohhhhh my… you are bringing back my younger-day memories with this one! I was the ‘queen’ of calling in and winning concert tickets in the ’80s! Loved it! ‘You’re caller #10, congratulations!’ Miss those days. Won some really cool things from the radio. Talked to a lot of the DJ hosts, too! They all were great people. Too bad people in later generations don’t and won’t know about these little things that made our day. Good lord, it was hard too… if you didn’t have a push-button phone. Lol!”
“You ever have a DJ come on to you while you’re trying to win some tickets?!”
“One time, I recognized a station van that does live broadcasts. He was in the drive-thru, I was taking his order and totally, absolutely (teasingly) harassing him. Little did I know he was broadcasting me live. Very funny. Another time, we won a radio station doing a live broadcast at our house (farm). They arrived with beer and stayed long after the broadcast was over. They had a blast! It was a party.”
“I’ve been on both sides of this question at different times. I was a radio DJ, answering phones, and before and after that, I would call in, mostly for contests, of which I HAVE won large prizes in the past. Don’t seem to get in these days, when everything is syndicated — not much local media left of any sort.”
“I love this poll because, luckily, I own a radio station in my hometown.”
“Not talk radio but otherwise.”
“My local talk radio station gets a lot of calls from me.”
“MORE SO WHEN I LIVED NEAR NEW YORK, NOT SO MUCH NOW. ONLY LISTEN TO RADIO IN THE CAR.”
“Yes! I called in today and won a contest!!”
